About 4 months ago I took my son shooting up Providence canyon. I brought my Walther P22 5" target model that I had bought when they first came out in 2001. Because Walther's name is on the slide, I thought these were quality made German engineering. The pistol had no more than 1000 rounds through it. Never would I expect what would happen next.

My 11 yr. old begins to shoot it. After squeezing off the 4th shot, the slide flies off the gun and hits him in the face. Feeling a bit angry and confused, I inspect things closer. The slide has cleanly broken all the way through right behind the front sight plug!?

Luckily, it only hit his cheek, and after the redness goes away, my son is ok (though a bit shaken up and now leery of shooting). It could've been worse though (possible broken tooth or nose).

Here are a bunch of pics:

I contact Walther (Smith & Wesson) and let them know what happened. After 20 days, i finally get an email back! They want me to ship them the pistol for inspection. So they email me a prepaid shipping label. I box her up and ship it out the next day.

After 3 MONTHS (and MANY emails wondering what's going on due to ambiguous customer service responses), I finally get a replacement pistol!

After a bit of google-ing, I find out that Walther doesn't even make the P22. Umarex does. The slide is made out of cheap zinc pot metal (no wonder it broke). The pistol is not designed to last. It is disposable and you won't be passing it down to your kids.

What a piece of JUNK!!

I sold it and bought a proper .22lr - the Ruger SR22. It is everything that the P22 ought to be. Plus it's cheaper and comes with 2 mags.
